Welcome to the home of the Rio Grande Golf Course Superintendent's Association. We are foremost a chapter of the national Golf Course Superintendent's Association. We are dedicated to serving our members, advancing their profession and enhancing the enjoyment, growth and vitality of the game of golf.
The Rio Grande Golf Course Superintendent Association (RGGCSA) is a professional organization, established to give golf course superintendents a networking opportunity that comes through interaction with fellow professionals in the industry. The RGGCSA welcomes not only current and retired superintendent, but assistants, golf course co-workers and many affiliated partners and turf educators. The Rio Grande GCSA helps to facilitate educational programs, to assist superintendents to achieve and retain national certification, through our affiliation with the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America. In addition, education is available in many areas of efficient and economical management of golf courses and related environmental areas. The RGGCSA has been a major contributor to the NMSU Turf Research Program. Ongoing test plot research, at NMSU, provides valuable information on the best grasses for different areas, soil conditions and the most effective watering programs.
The members of the Rio Grande GCSA are professionals, who make sure the golfing public has the best turf conditions possible. The team leader is the golf course superintendent. The condition of the golf course (turf areas) should and does lie directly on the shoulders of the golf course superintendent. The superintendent on your golf course is a turf professional. He or she knows the how, what, when and where of turf. Growing turf however, is not the only job the golf course superintendent is assigned to do. He or she has to be the, personnel manager, budget manager, irrigation specialist, mechanic and a pesticide, fertilizer and seed expert. To put a word on it, the golf course superintendent must be a jack of all trades. The reason golfers come back, time after time, is to have a wonderful experience, playing a great game. The members of the Rio Grande GCSA are all working toward that goal.
